Mary O’Hagan |
Mary O’Hagan initiated the mental health service user movement in New Zealand in the late 1980s and was the first chairperson of the World Federation of Psychiatric Users between 1991 and 1995. She is currently one of New Zealand’s Mental Health Commissioners.
Mary has experience working
in user/survivor organisations, in mental health policy and funding agencies,
and as a consultant. Her overriding commitment in all her work is to ensure
service users are treated with respect and equality in mental health services,
retain their citizen rights and worked to achieve this through developing self
help and advocacy initiatives, recovery approaches and anti-discrimination
projects as well as representing service users in national and international
forums.
